An evening of patriotism and song
Opera star Stephanie Blythe and pianist Craig Terry join forces to celebrate the magic of legendary singer Kate Smith and her legacy as WWII era America's patriotic songstress. Dubbed The First Lady of Radio, Smith's songs uplifted a nation in turmoil. Her immensely popular version of Irving Berlin's 'God Bless America' is still played during New York Yankees Baseball games to this day.
Stephanie Blythe, a songbird of note herself, made a powerful debut in the 2013 Opera season in 'A Masked Ball' and Verdi's 'Requiem'. Her rich and sonorous voice is perfectly suited to Smith's catalogue of American songbook standards that include 'Dream a Little Dream of Me' and 'I Don't Want to Walk Without You'.
