San Diego Opera present the West Coast premiere of this brand new show by Jack Heggie and Terrance McNally. Known for his landmark modern classic Moby Dick, Heggie's newest work concerns Arden Scott, an international opera star who returns to her hometown with the intention of saving the ailing company that started her career. Directed by three time Tony winner Jack O'Brien (Hairspray, Henry IV), Great Scott promises to be an illuminating and thoughtful addition to the company's repertoire.
Preparing to present a long-lost bel canto, Arden Scott hopes her return will save the struggling opera company that made her name. However, her homecoming coincides with the home team's first National Championship. Great Scott sparks some interesting questions around how we see the Arts and what purpose they serve today.
