Created by two-time winner of the Le Comte de Nouy Prize, Melissa Ross, The Luckiest centers around a strong-minded young woman whose shock medical diagnosis leaves her trying to humor the good intentions of the two most important people in her world, whilst trying to live and end her life, her way.
Up until her diagnosis, Lisette constantly found herself sparring between her mother and best friend, two very different characters, holding conflicting opinions about how Lisette should live her life. But when Lisette receives the unexpected medical results that will see her life cut short, she is compelled to manoeuver between them both, so that she can dictate her life and its ending.
Moving and humorous, this poignantly written production will move and uplift its audience.
The Luckiest was written by Ross for La Jolla Playhouse's 2018 New Work Series; previous works include the acclaimed Thinner Than Water, Nice Girl, and Of Good Stock. She has chosen to premiere The Luckiest at La Jolla Playhouse under the direction of its former associate artistic director, Jamie Castaeda.
