Why See AFI and Circa Survive?
This is Hardcore
AFI have a come a long way since 1995's Answer That and Stay Fashionable, a two-barrelled assault of hardcore and punk. With the addition of guitarist Jade Puget in the early 00s, the band have expanded their sonic palette, drawing in influences from the likes of The Cure and Depeche Mode. This year's self-titled record, their tenth, stands as a testament to how far they've come, especially on the epic and lush closer 'The Wind that Carries Me Away'.
They're joined on these dates by Circa Survive, another hardcore band whose sound has strayed more into mainstream territory over the years. Both of these groups put on a phenomenal live show, and they make for perfect touring partners. Catch them both when they hit San Diego Open Air Theatre in San Diego, CA, Closed August 1, 2017.
