The Stunning One Man Show
Created by stage veteran and Oscar winner James Lecesne, The Absolute Brightness of Leonard Pelkey is one of the most original shows of recent years. With a story built around the disappearance gay teenager, Lecesne effortlessly inhabits the play's myriad characters, from gumshoe detective Chuck to force of nature hair stylist Ellen.
Both a tense police procedural and a subtle exploration of the gay experience in America, the play went down a storm Off-Broadway in February 2014. The New York Times' Charles Isherwood praised the Lecesne as a "dazzling beacon of theatrical talent" and one of "the most talented solo performers of his (or any) generation."
WHAT IS THE ABSOLUTE BRIGHTNESS ABOUT?
Downtrodden Jersey detective Chuck DeSantis is having yet another terrible day at the office when human whirlwind Ellen Hertle bursts through the door to report the disappearance of her nephew, Leonard. As DeSantis delves into the case he stirs up a whole lot of emotions in the small Jersey Town, as everyone reflects on Leonard's life and the bravery he possessed in staying true to himself.
