World Premiere Of Almost Famous Wows The Critics

Abigail, October 1st, 2019

Now playing at the Old Globe Theater

Cameron Crowe's Acadamy award-winning hit is the latest movie to receive a musical makeover! Directed by Jeremy Herrin and with music by Tom Kitt it's time to find out what the critics thought of Almost Famous...

The Los Angeles Times was full of praise for the brand new production saying, "As shimmering as a stadium of lighters during a Led Zeppelin encore." They continued with "Crowe has adapted his Oscar-winning screenplay into the musical's book, which preserves much of what was so appealing about the film without insisting on perfect fidelity."

The San Diego Union-Tribune mirrored the sentiment saying, "Almost Famous' captures a shining moment of youth, love and music in Old Globe world premiere". Variety continued the praise with "The end result? In the hands of Kitt, Crowe (who also wrote the musical's book) and director Jeremy Herrin, a love letter to music and the concert experience, or, in rock 'n' roll parlance, a backstage pass to peek into a world that feels both fantastical and real."

What is Almost Famous about?

Tasked with following up and coming band, Stillwater, Crowe's tale follows 15-year-old William Miller as he dives headfirst into the debaucherous rock and roll scene. Featuring a book by Crowe, direction from Jeremy Herrin and a new score from Tom Kitt, expect a nostalgic coming of age opus where seemingly nothing is off-limits.

Almost Famous is now playing at the Old Globe through to October 27.
