A Thousand Splendid Suns Is Brought to the Stage
Khaled Hosseini's best-selling novel is brought to life on the stage in the Summer of 2018 at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre. The sweeping epic, adapted by renowned Irish-Indian playwright Ursula Rani Sarma, will be helmed by the artistic director of the American Conservatory Theater and features a breath-taking score from prolific composer David Coulter.
What Is A Thousand Splendid Suns About?
After a trip to his homeland of Afghanistan for the first time in 30 years, Hosseini was inspired by the lives of the women he met there. The story follows Laila and Mariam, two women from vastly different walks of life amidst the back drop of their country's political instability. As they struggle for independence in the face of a tyrannical and oppressive society, the pair begin a deeply moving journey in search of a better life.
