From a young age, its clear that Despereaux Tilling isn't your average mouse. For one thing, he's not concerned with the usual mouse activities - he's more interested in reading books than nibbling at their pages and isn't driven to hunt for food... When he hears the beautiful sound of music, he follows it to the human Princess Pea's bedroom where he falls in love at first sight, an event that starts a noble quest filled with castles, dungeons and villainous rats.
