Alejandro Aranda at Voodoo Room

Why see Alejandro Aranda?

Hondo Tour

The stand-out star of the 17th season of American Idol, Alejandro Aranda, is back on the road this year, bringing his genre-hopping tunes to the world on the Hondo Tour. Combining intricate guitar work with a sound that encapsulates folk, pop, and experimental rock, don't miss the artist that Stevie Knicks once enthusiastically predicted would "perform across great stages of the world"!

About Alejandro Aranda

Originating from Pomona, California, Aranda came to music later in life and taught himself how to sing and play the guitar. After busking around California under the name "Scarypoolparty," Aranda was heralded as the 'Artist of the Year' in the annual Five of Five Entertainment and California State University talent competition in 2017. In 2019, he won the judges' and the public's hearts, appearing on American Idol, becoming the only contestant in the show's history to play seven original songs across the competition. Since then, he's continued to play live shows and make his genre-bending music, even finding time to join the metal supergroup Seven Hours After Violet.

Well done

I followed American Idol during Alejandro's season, only because I happened upon his incredible musical talent. At the time it intrigued me that he mentioned that Trent Reznor, Chopin and Bach were his musical muses (what a fascinating trio - heavy metal meets classical). Most of his compositions on the show trended to poppy ballads penned by a nascent songwriter, but his extraordinary musicianship was what kept drawing me back to the show (I mostly watched him on YouTube). So when the opening act was a metal/dance/techno musician (still raw around the edges) I thought what have we here/hear? Alejandro came out blazing with a four piece band that laid a wall of sound and light down on the audience (I looked around and saw the astonished/bewildered face.). I was at this point drawn into a wonderful musical journey, as the Trent Revnor part of AA revealed itself and I was beguiled by his refusal to stick to the expected script. By the fourth song he had me enthralled and his driving, technically brilliant piano playing reminded me of a young Rick Wakeman (yep, I'm old). While I saw about 10% of the audience (mostly older) leave during the show, the remaining 90% were treated to a budding musical star's genius. Again that's why they have vanilla and pistachio on the menu. ... Read more

All sides of Alejandro

If you left early you missed the Alejandro you came to see! He did it all and he did it his way. Hard and soft, fast and slow, brutal and sensitive, all sides of AA. He is unique, he is still amazing and still does what we all loved on TV. He is still Alejandro, apparently unchanged from the humble artist we all love. But, for me, let me know when he does an Alejandro Unplugged concert, I’ll be there with bells on. ... Read more
