Love, revenge, trickery and comeuppance, this comic opera has it all!
Mozart's most celebrated comic opera has everything an opera goer could want - love, disguise, revenge, farcical hilarity and a cathartic wedding thrown in for good measure, all tied together by the thread of the great composer's sublime masterpiece of a score. Experience the heart-warming, joyful tale of The Marriage of Figaro during the San Diego Opera's staging of the classic this fall, featuring baritone John Moore as the dastardly count Almaviva and bass-baritone Nicholas Brownlee as the hero Figaro.
Picking up where Mozart's The Barber of Seville left off, The Marriage of Figaro chronicles a single madcap day in the palace of Count Almaviva in 18th century Seville. Matchmaker, barber and servant to the Count, Figaro has himself fallen in love with Susanna and the pair are soon to be married. Yet the lecherous count has his eye on his Countess' maid, delayed the wedding so he can exercise his royal right to bed a servant girl on the night of her marriage. Figaro, Susanna and the embarrassed countess put their heads together and devise a scheme, arranging a comeuppance of Oedipal proportions.
